Originally, Ford tractors were made and sold under the brand of Fordson, and they were manufactured by the "Henry Ford and Son Company" before this later became the Ford Motor Company. They were made at Henry Ford’s home town of Springwells in Michigan. They were made under the name Fordson from 1917 to 1928, and there then followed a hiatus in the production of tractors in the US until 1939. The Fordson name was dropped in the US and Fordson became Ford tractors.

Ford re-entered the market with the N-series range of tractors, with the N8 becoming the most prolific tractor of all time in North America. It was launched in 1947. Production of the N line of models ended in 1952, with the Ford NAA tractor replacing it in 1953.

After various company acquisitions made by Ford in the tractor market, Fiat purchased Ford-New Holland 1993 and the company’s name was changed to simply New Holland.
