The engine used in these vehicles is a 1.4 HDi 8 valve common rail diesel engine with a power output of 54 bhp. The Toyota Aygo and the Peugeot and Citroen cars were developed in a joint venture between the PSA (Peugeot – Citroen) Group and Toyota and the cars were first shown at the Geneva motor show in 2005. The engine has also seen service in Ford and Mazda cars too. The engine has proved to be a reliable unit, and with its relatively low power it has been used in the smallest cars in the Ford, Mazda, Toyota and PSA model ranges. The engine is economical, ensuring around 50 miles to the gallon regularly.
