This 2.7 litre engine is part of the ‘Lion’ family of engines. It was developed and built at Ford Dagenham’s Diesel Engine centre and was for use in Peugeot and Citroen models, as well as Jaguar (who Ford owned at the time) and Land Rover vehicles. The engine – which is a V6 configuration – was launched in 2004 and it meets the Euro IV emission standards. A 3 litre variant, based on the 2.7 litre, was added in 2009. The engine has a compacted graphite iron construction for its block which was highly innovative at the time. As standard the 2.7 litre engine had twin turbo’s and 4 valves per cylinder, but Land Rover installed a large capacity single turbocharger which is considered more appropriate for the characteristics required of its vehicles.

In 2011 a Bosch pump and fuel injector system was introduced on the 2.7litre engine, and at the same time the models that the engine was used in changed to the Landrover Freelander, the Range Rover Sport, and the X Type Jaguar.
