This 1.8 litre diesel engine is part of Ford’s Duratorq range of engines. Duratorq is the marketing name for the engines that first appeared in the Ford Mondeo in the year 2000. This 1.8 engine is an intercooled common rail diesel that is a significantly improved version of the Endura -D engine that was available in Ford vehicles on the 1980’s and 1990’s. It is, therefore, an engine based on tried and trusted build and components.

The 1.8 litre engine was only really used in Ford vehicles, but it has an excellent reputation for the quality of its build and reliability, and overall very few issues have ever been reported about the engine. Consequently, the 1.8 litre diesel engine is well known for doing significant mileages as long as they are well looked after and frequently serviced. The Mondeo, particularly, is well known for pounding motorways reliably with very few problems.
