The K9K engine range was co-developed by Nissan and Renault. It is a range of 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines with differing power outputs depending on which Euro standard they meet i.e. Euro 3, Euro 4 or Euro 5. After the joint development of the engine, it was put into production in 2001 and as of April 2013 over 10 million engines had been sold. No less than three countries manufacture the K9K - Turkey, India and Spain. With it’s relatively low power output – the lowest being 65 bhp – the engine has seen service in relatively small, lightweight vehicles such as the Renault Modus and the Renault Clio, although it has also been used in the Dacia Logan and Sandero models.

This diesel unit has been developed over the years to satisfy Euro 5 requirements so engine noise was reduced as was NOx levels, while at the same time, improving torque output.
